QR Codes

QR Codes are two-dimensional bar codes. It is called two-dimensional because it can carry data both horizontally and vertically. Each code includes three squares in the corners that tell the scanner how to orient the data. The QR code above left, for example, contains a link to our homepage . Scan the QR code with your internet enabled mobile telephone and you will be taken to our web site. This is a simple example of the new technologies available to help promote your business. The applications for this technology are endless! Especially for small businesses.

Recently, QR codes have become more prevalent in marketing campaigns and have been integrated into both traditional and interactive campaigns. Media where QR codes have been deployed include: billboards, in-store displays, business cards, print ads direct mail, email, coupons and trade-show management. QR codes are of particular interest to marketers. Giving them the ability to measure the response rates with a high degree of precision. This gives them an easier way to calculate their ROI (return on investment).

While the adoption of QR codes in some markets has been slow, the technology is gaining some traction in the smarphone and cell phone markets. Many cell phones come with QR code reader app's pre-installed and QR code reader software is available for most mobile telephone platforms.

We're increasingly reliant on our mobile devices, and typing out long URL's or other data on their tiny keypads is not very efficient. The QR code is a shortcut around that problem. Just scan a QR code on a business card and all the contact information will be automatically loaded into the contacts of your phone. All you have to do is scan, then accept the information into your contacts.

Imagine you are on a pleasant drive on a Sunday afternoon. You see a house for sale. On the "for sale" sign is a QR code. You scan the QR code on the sign using your Blackberry. You are taken on a virtual tour of the home on your cell phone while you are sitting in the driveway. You get all the information; number of bedrooms, baths, realtor's contact information and asking price of the home all while sitting in your car! Or, If you run a restaurant, you can place these QR codes on your menus to offer discounts or advertise specials. A customer scans the QR code on your menu and is taken to a discount coupon or a 'special of the day' you are offering! The uses for QR codes are limited only by your imagination! And the real beauty is, your potential customers have all the information stored in their cell phone! They are, in essence, taking your sign, flyer or menu home with them. It's always with them until they delete it from the cell phone.
